Advice on Using Credit Cards

Hi,

I recently started creating my own line of pocketbooks. As my small business grows, I have realized that I will need more payment options rather than just cash and checks. Does anyone have experience accepting credit cards? I have done research but I find it overwhelming and do not know where to start.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Verda

Hey Verda,

I would highly recommend using PayPal rather than credit cards. Personally, I found the fees that the bank charged to be ridiculous.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice Mattie.

I am not very tech savvy so would setting up a merchant account on PayPal be difficult?

Thanks, Verda

Hello,

PayPal is very user friendly. Here is a link for more information https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/merchant.

I use it for my business because:

  1. The fees are lower than most credit card companies.
  2. It is very user friendly and only takes a few minutes to register for.
  3. If my clients do not have a PayPal account, I set up my account to process credit cards too.

Good luck!

Paypal is an definitely an option, another is Stripe (you can use both if you'd like.) Some business owners prefer Stripe as they see paypal as something connected to eBay while Stripe is fairly transparent.

Both offer card readers that can connect to your phone.

Stripe is much better then PayPal IMO (at least until you upgrade to a full on merchant account)
