What Keeps You Motivated?
In business, as in life, there are good and bad times.
I run a catering business which has always been my life goal. However, even when I am doing something I am passionate about, the constant strain of running a business is sometimes overwhelming.
So I was wondering, how do you stay motivated? Also, what are some tips for not facing personal burnout?
I thought I would ask since as business owners, our moods and energy levels directly impact our businesses and the way we make money.
Do you have something to add to this discussion?

As far as staying motivated, I make to-do lists. This helps me see what I need to do, but more importantly, what I've already completed and accomplished. By recognizing what I have done, I am able to focus and manage what still needs to be done. This prevents me from getting overwhelmed. Although as a business owner that is bound to happen anyway.

Hi Marie,
I think you asked a very important question here.
Personally as a workaholic, I spend alot of my time at the office. However, I have created a unique way of handling the problem you mentioned.
I created a series of cards that list the things that matter the most to me: Family, Home, Future, etc...
Whenever I get overwhelmed I pull a card out of my desk drawer. It helps remind me why I am working these late nights.
Good luck! Annabel

I remind myself that I get to earn money doing what I am passionate.

Welcome Marie!
I try to make a list of the things I want to accomplish each day (beyond day-to-day activities) each night after work.
Also, get out of the office! Go for a hike, take a bike ride or do something that will take your mind off work for a hour. I find that by doing this periodically, I come back more motivated and am more productive.
Another thing I like to do is listen to entrepreneurial e-books or podcasts while commuting or driving around. This might not work for everyone but when I do, I always seem to get new ideas and a fresh perspective.
That and come here and talk to other business owners! You'd be amazed how much helping someone else can motivate you.
Good luck, Rob

Hey,
I suggest taking a brain break sometimes. Get out of the office, go for a walk, do something you enjoy. It might give you a fresh perspective when you go back to work.

I second the ebook thing, I listen to them all the time and find them quite inspiring.
